Throughout the year, we focus on nature by exploring "Who lives in our backyard?"

Picture
We take advantage of our wonderful classroom windows for observing the outdoor world.   We use the enclosed space right outside our classroom.  We utilize our interesting school grounds, including garden beds, young and old trees, a butterfly garden, and a pond.  Our learning is driven by the changing seasons, plants and animals we see, and questions we have.  We learn through books, stories and songs, field work, and experts.  We express what we learn through art, music, drama, and writing.  On any given day during project work time, you may find Kindergarten children observing real objects or animals, sketching and writing, looking through books, painting, making models, or building.

Our days are filled with opportunities to explore our interests, moments to consider our own feelings and the feelings of others, and time to learn new skills.  We dance and sing.  We run and climb. We read and listen to great stories.  We enjoy food together.  We rest, and we play.  We learn to take responsibility for the choices that we make and how to make things better when things don't go as planned.  We treat others the way we want to be treated.  We are encouraged to be curious, creative, and courageous and to feel proud of a job well-done.
